Introducing Chore Credits: fair chores, without the nagging

Why Chore Credits lets children choose their chores, counts effort in credits, and refuses to turn housework into a game.

Most chore apps start from the same idea: assign the work, track who did it, reward the winners. Chore Credits starts somewhere else. The most reliable way to get a job finished is to let the person doing it choose it.

How it works

You set up a household menu of chores. Each child opens their own board and picks what to do today, from only the chores that make sense for their age.

Every chore is worth 1, 2, or 3 credits. The number describes the size of the job, not how fast a particular child does it, so a younger child and an older one are treated fairly by the same rule. Each child has a small daily credit target. Reach it, and the day is done.

Simple, everyday chores count as soon as they’re marked complete. Bigger jobs, or ones that need a grown-up nearby, wait for a quick parent review. Submitted and approved credits always stay separate, so nobody has to guess what counts.

The weekly agreement

Approved credits roll up into a weekly view alongside the allowance amount you agreed. Planned days off never count against the week, and you decide when a week is settled and paid. There’s also a print-ready wall board, so the agreement stays visible on the fridge even when the phone is put away.

What it deliberately isn’t

There are no leaderboards, no comparison between siblings, no streak pressure, and no reward animations designed to keep children opening the app. Credits describe effort, not currency: no bank account, no card, and no money moves through Chore Credits.

Private by construction

There are no accounts and no servers. Everything you enter lives on your device, and the only things it stores about a child are a name and a birth month and year, which it uses to suggest age-appropriate chores. You can export your household history as JSON or CSV whenever you like. The privacy policy has the details.

Where it is now

Chore Credits is in closed testing on Android. If you have an Android phone and a household that argues about chores, we’d love your help testing it.
